NIHA Healthcare Leadership Program

Improving Healthcare in Asia

Public health issues will be among the most serious challenges in Asia in the coming years. The growing complexities of healthcare delivery call for more holistic insights and integrative solutions.

The NIHA Healthcare Leadership Program presents a unique opportunity for healthcare leaders to enhance their leadership acumen and decision-making abilities to address these complexities. Participants will learn about health policy and program design, implementation and evaluation, as well as healthcare leadership and management.

With its Asia-centric case studies and faculty, the NIHA Healthcare Leadership Program is the first of its kind, blending traditional teaching methods with case-study learning and site visits. All participants will also have the opportunity to work with a faculty mentor on a practical project.

Curriculum

The NIHA Healthcare Leadership Program comprises two modules: a Core Module and an Advanced Module.

The Core Module consists of coursework over two weeks, which will address the following areas:

  • Health policy and program design, implementation and evaluation
  • Leadership and management skills with a focus on healthcare settings
  • Updates of selected healthcare and public health topics

Following the Core Module, participants will proceed to work on a practical project in their home countries for a year. The proposals are developed during the Core Module to help participants identify the areas and topics they would like to focus on. Faculty mentors are provided by NIHA to support the participants in their projects over the one year.

All participants who successfully complete the Core Module will be invited to return for the Advanced Module in the following year. This allows participants to present their project work and also to network with new participants on the program.

Testimonials

"The content, the overall information and the skills I have gained from this course have been incredible. Before I attended this program I had been struggling with myself to connect the different issues and topics related to management and leadership together. The content of this course is uniquely put together and really addresses the issues that I had back in my workplace. We covered teambuilding, leadership, policy analysis, effective communication and the multi-sectoral approach towards health promotion. The conceptual learning and framework from this course will help me to resolve the issues that I have or will be consistently facing back in Afghanistan."

Mohammad Dauod Khuram
National Manager, Health Program
Aga Khan Foundation
Afghanistan

"This program has provided me with insights on leadership, as well as the courage and support on how to implement a project and be a good leader. What I liked most about the program is that it gave us a chance to talk about our experiences – many ideas were shared between participants from many countries. The field trip was very exciting because it gave examples on how a health-promoting environment can be implemented and how multi-agency collaboration is being executed in Singapore."

Ruziana Binti Miss
District Health Officer
Kuching Divisional Health Office, Sarawak
Malaysia

"This program has changed the way I look at healthcare and how to deliver and improve healthcare for a large group of patients."

Fareed Kagda
Senior Consultant
Alexandra Hospital
Singapore

"What I liked about the program is how it combines health system analysis with the business management side. This is a very interesting combination that I seldom find works very well, but I really liked the way NUS packaged the two components together. It was also delivered by world-class professors and we were given ample time to have group discussions as well as share our experiences. Overall, it has been a very rich experience and I feel very blessed."
