Your family has accumulated wealth over the years, and you are considering ways to grow, preserve and distribute wealth to your family members whilst maintaining strong family relationships. With so many investment options available, financial market volatility and advisors who may not have your family's best interest in mind, growing family wealth beyond three generations is a challenge.

Good family wealth management requires an understanding of the investment options available, family business governance, tax and estate planning, objective setting, educating your family members, and astute management of your family's financial advisors. Whilst each family's situation is unique, there are many best practices which can be applied to Asian families.

The program incorporates case studies, lectures, and small group discussions in a confidential environment. Third party advisors, consultants and service providers will not be admitted.

  • Understand and challenge the tax and estate planning implications of your advisors' proposals
  • Utilize your advisors' strengths and manage their weaknesses through selection, evaluation, and alignment with your family's objectives
  • Learn in an objective and solicitation-free environment

Application Deadline

  • One month before commencement of program
  • Participants are strongly advised to apply at least 2 months in advance
  • Applications received after the deadline will be considered based on space availability

* The sessions on common and alternative investment classes may be suitable for family members and next generation members with a weaker understanding of investment.

Who Should Attend?

Asian individuals and families who have built wealth in this generation, have inherited family wealth, or are contemplating or have recently experienced a significant family event. Family office executives may attend with principal family members, but the course is closed to all other financial services professionals.

  • The sessions on common and alternative investment classes may be suitable for family members and next generation members with a weaker understanding of investment.

Yupana Wiwattanakantang

Yupana Wiwattanakantang
Associate Professor, NUS Business School
PhD, Hitotsubashi University

Dr Wiwattanakantang is an Associate Professor at NUS Business School. Her research and teaching interests are in the area of governance of family firms – in particular, the role of the founding family and the impact of family affairs on corporate behaviour, such as succession and firm performance. She is an expert on the value of political marriages to family firms, as well as the unique adoption practices carried out by Japanese family businesses that result in superior performance. To understand how various succession practices affect business survival, she is currently extending her research to include top family firms worldwide. In addition, she is also investigating the post-IPO evolution of family firms with respect to ownership and control, focusing on the reasons that lead to the retention or sale of the business, as well as the choice between family and non-family CEOs.

Dr Wiwattanakantang's research has been published in top-tier academic journals as well as cited by media such as the Financial Times. She has been invited to present her research at many central banks and renowned universities such as the Harvard Business School, Columbia University, INSEAD, London Business School and University of Tokyo.

Dr Reeb's research is prevalent in the most influential academic journals in business and has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, The Economist, Forbes, the Financial Times, the International Herald Tribune, Inc Magazine, SmartMoney, and MSNBC.  He has been interviewed on both CNN and Bloomberg regarding his studies on the impact of continued founding-family ownership in S&P 500 firms.  Professor Reeb is routinely ranked above the 95th percentile in overall teaching and value added in the classroom. While at American University, Dr Reeb was nominated for the American University Professor of the Year: Excellence in Teaching. He is a member of the American Finance Association, American Accounting Association, the Academy of International Business, and the Financial Management Association.  Dr Reeb has presented his work at conferences and workshops in the US, Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific. He has also been appointed as a Department Editor at the Journal of International Business Studies, the leading journal in international business.  He is also a three-time Ironman Finisher.

Cher Hui is an Accredited Tax Advisor (Income Tax) at the Singapore Institute of Accredited Tax Professionals (SIATP) with 15 years of academic and professional experience in taxation and business consulting in various jurisdictions including Singapore, Australia and China. Cher Hui's professional experiences include entry and exit strategies covering issues such as pre-incorporation tax planning, profit repatriation and post-acquisition/joint venture integration. She has also participated in investment and tax planning seminars as both presenter and chairperson in Singapore and China.
