Professor Glenn R. Caroll

Lawrence W. Lane Professor of Organizational Behaviour Professor of Sociology (by courtesy), School of Humanities and Sciences, Stanford Graduate School of Business

Professor Carroll's research interests include organizational theory, strategic management, and industrial evolution. He has pioneered organisational analysis, as well as their application to strategy. Professor Carroll pioneered the study of population dynamics among organizations, examining how the demographics of firms affecting corporate change.

He is also known for his work in the areas of industrial development, strategic management, organisational and industrial evolution.

Dr Prem Shamdasani

Dr Prem Shamdasani

Dr Sum Chee Chuong

Associate Professor, NUS Business School
PhD, University of Minnesota, USA

He is currently Area-Coordinator of the Operations and Supply Chain Management Group in the Decision Sciences Department. He was formerly Co-Academic Director of the NUS MBA program. An active consultant and executive trainer, he has serviced private and public organisations such as SIA, IBM, Shell, IKEA, Kaifa (Shenzhen), APP (Indonesia), Singapore Confederation of Industries, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Defence, Chartered Institute of Transport (Singapore), and Singapore Technologies Logistics.

His current research interests are in the development of operations and supply chain capabilities, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), operations strategy, and global operations management. His research has appeared in leading international journals such as Decision Sciences, Journal of Operations Management, IIE (Trans), European Journal of Operational Research, and Omega. 

Before joining academia, he worked as an information systems officer in a computer organization and an engineer in an aerospace company.

Dr Nitin Pangarkar

Associate Professor of Business Policy, 
NUS Business School
PhD, University of Michigan 

Dr Pangarkar teaches strategy and international business courses in the BBA, MBA and Executive MBA programs at the National University of Singapore. He has been a key faculty in several executive development programs at NUS including the General Management Program, the Strategic Management Program and the Commonwealth Top Managers Program. Recognised by both students and fellow faculty for his excellent work, Dr Pangarkar has been the recipient of several awards for superior teaching and service

He has been an invited speaker for several managerial conferences as well as a consultant to many companies such as Alliant Techsystems, DuPont, IBC Asia, IQPC Worldwide and Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce. 

His research interests lie in strategic management and international business – specifically cross-border strategic alliances, mode of entry and global strategy.  Dr Pangarkar’s research has been published in the form of several international journal articles, conference proceedings, cases, and book chapters.

Accounting and Finance for Non-Financial Managers

Dr Ruth Tan

Associate Professor of Finance, NUS Business School
Certified Public Accountant
PhD, University of Washington

Dr Tan teaches business finance, personal finance, corporate finance, and financial markets. She received the Faculty Outstanding Educator Award in 2003, and Recognition for Excellence as Outstanding Educator in 2004. She was also listed as an excellent teacher in the “The NUS Undergraduate Student Feedback 2002/2003”.

She is currently serving on the Board of Management of the NUS Academic Staff Provident Fund. In 2002, she held the post of Vice Dean of Finance and Administration in the School.  She also does consulting and conducts in-house training programmes for various multinational organizations. 

Her research interests include privatization and policy risk, mergers and acquisition and seasoned equity offerings.  Dr Tan's reasearch articles have been published in numerous international academic and professional journals.  She frequently serves as reviewer for international journals and was associate editor of the Asian Case Research Journal from 1997 to 2003.

Lowe Joo Yong

Lecturer, Human Resource Management Unit,
Department of Management and Organization,

Prior to joining NUS, Mr Lowe had a distinguished career in a variety of industries including stock broking, reinsurance, engineering, and hospitality. The highlight of his career was the opportunity to travel extensively in the region, conducting executive courses for managers in the hospitality industry for organizations such as the Malaysian Association of Hotels, Hotel & Restaurant Association of the Philippines, Myanmar’s Ministry of Hotels & Tourism, Services of Tourism in Ho Chi Minh City, Thailand’s Dusit Thani College, and Indonesia’s Acacia Group of Hotels.

Besides teaching the undergraduates, he also teaches in various leadership and executive programs that are popular with public sector organizations as well as leading private sector companies.

Negotiation and Influence

Dr Chia Ho Beng

Senior Lecturer, NUS Business School
PhD, University of British Columbia

Dr Chia teaches undergraduates, university scholars, post-graduates, executives, and unionists in leadership, coaching for change, creative problem solving, human resource management, negotiations, mediation, and conflict resolution. He was awarded the Outstanding Educator Award in 2001 and 2002 and has made the list of the top 6 percent of educators at the National University of Singapore in 2003.

Dr Chia is also an adjunct feedback coach with the Center of Creative Leadership, and serves on various mediation and dispute resolution committees in Singapore. He is part of the research group at Singapore Mediation Centre, and on the management committee of the Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility. In 2006, Dr Chia was even awarded the Outstanding Community Service Award by the NUS Business School.

His research interests include motivating and encouraging organisational citizenship behaviour, cross cultural negotiations and mediation, the human side of knowledge management, and human resource management for technology innovation teams.

Prior to his academic career, he worked in both the financial and manufacturing sectors. His work experience includes managing corporate accounts, turnaround management, managing in merger transitions, and problem loans management. Dr Chia brings to the classroom a blend of theory and practical experience.

Dr Jay Narayanan

Assistant Professor
Ph.D., London Business School, UK

Jay Narayanan is an Assistant Professor in the department of Management & Organization at the NUS Business School. He received his PhD in Organizational Behaviour from the London Business School for his dissertation in the area of negotiations and decision-making. He also has a Masters in Human Resources from XLRI Jamshedpur and won the Citibank Leader’s award overall excellence during this time.

Jay’s research interests are in the area of negotiations & bargaining and creating effective groups and teams in organizations. Jay has taught organizational behaviour to undergraduates at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He has also been involved in the development and delivery of the negotiations courses for MBA and executive MBA students at the London Business School. Jay has taught negotiations to executives in law and technology firms in Germany, Austria and the UK. Besides this, he has also been involved with the Global leadership development program at the London Business School and as a part of this program, he has been a coach to executives and students.

Prior to his academic career, Jay worked with organizations such as Asea Brown Boveri and Mercer HR consulting. Most recently, Jay was one of the founding members of Merittrac, India’s largest human resource assessment company. Jay’s teaching is based on the psychological research he undertakes as well as the rich experience that he brings from the corporate world. Jay’s teaching is based on materials used to teach negotiations in top programs such as Kellogg, Harvard and London Business School.

Dr Audrey Chia

Dr Chia's research and teaching interests include leadership, organisational power and culture, and social and ethical aspects of management. She has conducted executive education, consulted for or given talks to companies such as Schenker-Bax Global, Elf Aquitane (now Total S.A.), Catalyst, Exel (now DHL-Exel), Panasonic, McDonald's, Samsung, telenor, Royal Brunei Airlines, and UBS.

Dr Chia has received University Achievement awards, faculty awards and numerous commendations for excellence in teaching.
